I have an 85 Johnson sailmaster 6 hp and when I bought the motor, my friend ( although trying to help) completely syphoned my motor full of water.
Any tips on how to flush out and how to air out the cylinders??

Thanks all!!

Jason

You are saying the water is in the cylinders..not the water (cooling) passages? How did your friend manage that and how long has the water been in the motor?

My friend Kurt managed to syphon water thru the gas lines from a tank that held water, not gas. Happened Saturday so only been in there a couple days. I am curious what is involved in getting the water out- Ive already pushed gas thru the lines- up to the carb.

Thanks!

Jason

I would take the plugs out and pour out all the water that will come out and then put plugs back in, leave plug wires off, choke it to get max fuel into the cylinders and turn it over..or pull it over. It is important to get as much of the water out of there as possible. It is hard to get all of it out with out tearing it down.

I would then start it up, with muffs ofcourse, and run it(pull the plugs and dry them off first)for awhile to make sure oil permeates the entire engine and any remaining water steams its way out.

Likely some internal rust has begun..it doesn't take long, but if you get the water out and the lube in quick, it should be minimal.

I am guessing that there will be very little water in the cylinders if your friend just pressured the water to the carbs..if you get the fuel in there I am sure you wil be fine..you could always remove your carb and empty out the float bowl which is where most of the water will be sitting.
