Hello all,
New poster here, I have, as a previous poster had done, just finished wading through 382 or so pages of this thread (I've been told I need to get a life) and gleaned a lot of info from it.
I have a new to me, aq225/280b in a 26' Rienell CC.
I noticed there are not many references to 280 ODs, far fewer than Mercury for example.
Does this mean that the 280 is a well built and relatively trouble free unit or does it mean that there are few around and I'm going to be sorry?

Re: VP 280

Welcome aboard. Its my understanding that the 280 is an improved version of what i have, the 270. I've also heard that , if properly maintained, they'll last forever. That is of course if you dont hit anything w/it.

Keep the water out of them by using new seals and gaskets EVERY time you change your gear lube (aka 30W engine oil) and replace the bellows every other year to keep the water out of the bellows, ujoints, and intermediate bearings and drive.
They are great drives, take care of them and you won't have to visit me at work $$$$$. ;)

Bullet proof?
That just means it would take the kid 60 seconds to tear it up instead of the usual 20.
and he wonders why I wouldn't let him take the truck to school.
