Anyone know if you can swap complete outdrive # 3868896 w/2.18 gear with # 3868895 w/1.97 gear on 3.0 L engine ?

You probably can but you may have to change prop pitch to achieve desired results.

Drive ratios are tailored to the engine peak torque and horsepower. The 1.97 is likely aligned with a 4.3L motor. If you change ratios, you need to change prop pitch so don't over or under rev the engine at WOT.
