I just moved up to a bigger boat and it has a Volvo. I was told it is 110hp, It is in a 1992 wellcraft excel bow rider. And should i store the lower unit in the up position or the down for the winter. The only trouble is when it is down it hits the ground

I have spent a lot of years around a lot of boats in salt water and fresh. I conisder the Volvo to be the top of the line for I/O's. Store your outdrive all the way down and remove the prop. This will allow any moisture to drain and keep the bellows from taking a set.

This is good information. Thanks.
I currently don't own a boat but I will be looking soon. The question of leg always comes up when I see a Volvo. I grew up with Merc's and gasp. OMC's. :)
My brother in-law has the volvo on his boat and has had no problems with it. Run in saltwater all the time.

Jeff

I just completed several months research on IO's and found the Volvo's are excellent however a little more expensive to repair. I was also informed that parts although plentyful take longer to get as thier distribution system stinks. I believe that many more boaters are going to the Volvo so both of the above problems may be resolved over the next couple of years.

I bought a 1989 AQ131 3 years ago, and it has taken me this long to get all the kinks out. Of course I don't spend every weekend with the boat but now that I understand the motor and have read the manuals, it has been great. For an old motor it does run good.

Outdrives are strong and reliable, engines so so.

donny, my volvo hits the ground also. I found if I lowered the front of the boat about 6 inches the drive could be all the way down and not hit the ground. Simple I know. If that doesn't work put some jack stands on the trailer or something under the tires and raise it up a little.
