I've just acquired an aging (1983) Sunseeker with an AQ170 petrol engine and outdrive. The boat's been neglected and needs work. The seller could give me no information about engine/outdrive maintenance. The problem I have at the moment is that the leg is locked down and I can't raise it. The electric motor works OK, turns for a few seconds then - clunk! - and stops with the leg still down. It's almost as if I need to be doing something else -- as well as pressing the up-down toggle switch -- to release a locking pin or something. Any ideas? Regards.

The tilt mechanism should release the locking mechanism as it pushes down. Look inside the suspension fork as someone works the tilt motor.
Check to ensure the rod is being pushed down.

Check the adjustment on the tiltlock mechanism. If it's bent or the rod at position B in the picture is missing or damaged, it will prevent the lock from releasing.
