My first winter after purchasing my new boat I am learning a hard lesson. WINTERIZE!!!! I did not do it, now I am looking at a massively cracked engine block that cannot be repaired. I am left with only one option: Replace the motor. I have a friend who does this type of work on boats and has agreed to do all the labor for fairly cheep. He also has connections on the purchase of a new Long Block engine which he can get for me at a price of about $1850. I have been told that you can go out and buy a regular short block GM 350 and swap a few parts (mainly the cam shaft) and your good to go. I bring this up because I can purchase a short block 350 for around $650. However, this is my baby and I want to do what is best. Is this a feasable repair or is it just cutting corners and I will be having problems later on down the road. Should I just spend the money on the Long Block Marine motor or is the GM 350 just as good? Are there any other options I am overlooking? PLEASE HELP!!! Any input would be much appreciated

If it was me Id buy the marine short block, A car engine is not made to run at 5000rpm a boat engine is. you can cut corners, save $$$ but youll always have that in your mind, IF its YOUR BABY then bite the bullet.. AND WINTERIZE!!!!

Agreed - and by all means stay original! The value of your boat will benefit from this as will your safety and stability. The marinised ready-to-go engine even saves you some worries with making things fit & work together. Although things seem to be POC there's always unexpected worries for you when merging two engines...

My cousin has contacted a friend who does ALOT of stuff for a local marine shop in town and is sponsered by a few others. He has agreed to find me a long block 350. I hope he comes through with a decent price. I figure that if I have to put in a new motor...y not upgrade? Thanks for the input guys.
