trying to find out what model engine is in 1981 21'REKEN its a four banger with a 270 outdive

There should be a tag rivited to the block just under the distributor. The model number will start with AQ. Something like AQ125A,B, or C or whatever.

I saw no tag the head has a stamping on it 1000160.any ideas

Is it OHV or OHC?<br /><br />Overhead valve = based on a 2L B-20B volvo engine.<br /><br />Overhead cam = 2.1L (based on the volvo B21) or 2.3L (B23) or 2.5L (not used in cars as far as I know).<br /><br />It's possible that there is a flat near the starter motor (on the block - not head) with a stamped engine number.<br /><br />Aldo

Got a 1981 volvo 240 in the workshop today, exact same motor as your picture. <br /><br />Its a B21 or B23 (they look the same) fuel injected, k-jectronic system. I've never seen one in a boat but maybe Don can shed some light on whether or not VP used them. The engine number is on the block near the distributor.<br /><br />Aldo

That's an automotive setup for sure. Volvo never used anything like that in their marine engines, and the distributor is also automotive. None of it is marine certified and is an explosion/fire hazard looking for a place to happen.

ok thanks I bought the boat for the trailer really just thought if i got the engine going i might make a couple extra bucks for the boat. guees the next question is what do you do with a junk boat? thanks again for you help
