volvo 290 raw water pick up

I have to re-place the raw water pickup flange
on the outdrive, is it possible to do without re-moving the upper drive unit, it looks like a tight fit, any ideas?
Ed,

Ed, the flange is very close to the driveshaft bellow, its easy to put a nick in the bellow when working with tools etc.

Loosen the outer bellow hose clamp and push the bellow out of the way, the rest is fairly easy.

No, you dont need to remove the upper case unless the pivot bearing (and the water tube inside the bearing) needs replacing. Need more info as to what carbs, engine etc. you are running but the most accurate way to adjust any carby is with a vaccum gauge, especially getting 2 carbs in sinc.

I havn't seen dual solex (common on volvos) in years but others on this forum will know the procedure. Aldo
