I am asking this question for my son-in-law. He has the chance to get a 1985 Bayliner for a good price but the owner says that it is backfiring and that it needs a new timming belt. He said he checked the compression and it is good so it must be the belt. If the belt is not broke is it possible that it jumped a tooth?? As they don't have a lot of money I don't want them to get into something thats going to cost them a lot. If it is the belt where is the best place to purchace one?? Thanks for any help you might give me!!

In My Honest Opinion ,
Tell your son-in-law to Keep Looking..........
A 20 Year Old bayliner, with Volvo power(that's Already Sick)........
This Looks more like a Money Pit, than a Boat Ride..........
Any more than FREE is Too Much......

Bondo has an excellent point, I myself would take a pass on that deal, your son-in law may be better off looking for outboard power, less moving parts and a bit simpler for annual maintenace.
