I have a 1989 Force 50 on a Blue Fin fishing boat, My voltmeter reads 15-16 volts at full throttle, the battery is new and was charged prior to installation, is this normal?

Re: Voltmeter readings

a little bit high, not enough to worry, the meter could be a little off 15 fine, 18 bad, keep an eye on the battery charge and keep a starter pack with you. also, someone in here once said that the charging system and the ignition system are almost always related , same stators or proxsimity

i wouldnt worry

Re: Voltmeter readings

With an accurate meter, it should read around 14V. I doubt if the boat meter is all that accurate and you should be ok. Check the battery regularly and if it's not boiling the water out, everything is copacetic. Your alternator on this motor is probably not regulated and the voltage won't drop off as the battery gets to full chatge.
