Value of an old Mercury outboard?

Hello!
I found this site and am hoping someone here can help me.
My father has a 1967 Mercury Kiekhaefer merc60 serial number 2195075. It is in great condition, runs great and has what he believes is the original 3 gallon fuel tank. We are trying to figure out what the value of this motor may be? Anyone have an educated guess or maybe suggestions on how to best find the value?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Value of an old Mercury outboard?

In small motors, 10-15HP are most desirable. Also parts can be a little tough to find for older Mercurys. However, that one is real cherry so I'd say $400-$600. It's a tough one to nail down because it may have more than just a practical value to someone. A regular old Mercury 6 HP from like the late 70s would only be a $3-400 motor. (my opinion only)

I agree with everything ez said and would add price depends on location and time of year selling. Another big factor is was it used in fresh or salt water.

As nice as it looks, I think you'd be hard pressed to get more than $300 for a 45-year old Merc.

^^^^He knows more than I do on the subject so unfortunately for you, I'm going to have to defer to him. Nothing stopping you from listing it for higher for a couple weeks to see if you get any bites.

I just sold a 1977 Mercury 4.5hp that ran great, without the tank and hose, for $350. Just a little experience for ya. I am in VA and it is the verge of spring-time.

Here she is. Not quite as clean as yours, but awfully clean. Id have kept it if it fit better on my transom and didn't weigh almost as much as my '81 9.9hp.

get yours into the collector's circuit--that's where the value is, not as a "daily driver."

Unless it's a racer, most of the black-era Mercs aren't really in the collectible realm - yet. A few people like them, but they haven't really taken off yet....
