valspar primer?

I was at the local fleet farm looking for boat (aluminum) primer, and next to the rust-oleum boat primer was valspar, "galvanized metal *and* aluminum primer".

does anyone here have an opinion on this stuff?

Nope, never used it, But,...
I try to use products from a single provider to do the complete job...
If I go with Rustoleum paint, I use ALL Rustoleum products...
If I'm doin' a Martin Seynour paint job, I use ALL Martin Seynour products for it...
By doin' it this way, I'm less apt to find Surprises from mismatched products that don't play well together...

Keep this in mind....... bare aluminum must be prepped the right way or the shortcut you take will bite you later on.

I agree with bondo on using the same brand products........primers should be top coated is a short time line. Paint bonds to primer by two methods.......first and MOST effective is the chemical bond between primer and paint and the second is the mechanical bond. If you leave more than 48-72 hrs between primer and paint then you need to scuff the primer with sandpaper and you will be using only the mechanical bond.

I don't know if valspar has a boat paint- I'll have to check on that. the only local stuff available are rustoleum products, but none of them have the aluminum stuff on the shelf, just the wood, "metal" and fiberglass kind, that says not to use it on aluminum.

I'll keep looking.

still interested in opinions on the valspar stuff too.

i was at lowes. i was wanting to get something like a rhino liner to do my aluminum boat with. all my paint is there. its just faded. i have no where to store. the salesman recomended the valspar grit paint. im not a paint expert so i held off. he sade i could get the gray and they could mix it to make it olive drab like my boat.

I'm having a hard time finding a number for the stuff. I saw it at fleet farm, but I can't find the code for it online anyplace, even on the fleet farm site (which doesn't surprise me).
