Hi all. Just wandering if anyone out there wants to share any tips or techniques for tuna fishing. Always looking for something new to try on those slow days when you can't seem to get a bite.

Re: Tuna Fishing Techniques or Tips

Sasham
Really need to know your area as different thing work better at different locations. I fish out of Bodega Bay 38 degrees north, 123 West. In this area average summer water temp 55 degrees, too cold. Most fish caught on outer edge of Cordell Banks where water upwells. Usually Aug or Sep before see many Albacore. Look for warm water and bait on the surface. Troll 6 to 9 miles per hour. Put a saftey line on each pole and put in rod holder or hold on tight with two hands they seem to hit at 30 miles per hour plus. Troll Feathers or Jigs on the surface back away from boat. If find school have live bait and rigged pole ready to go, at least 20 Lb Folorcarbon leader. If water cloudy at all use 30 pound. Fastest bait in the tank the best bait in the tank.
Must have a good reel with a great drag and make sure it is set. No time to set when the Albacore hits, it will break before you can touch it.
Good Luck.
