Hello everyone,

I am New to the boat scene. I have a 1960 40 horse johnson super sea horse. I replaced the diafram in the fuel pump and rebuilt the carburator, replaced the plugs. I cant seem to get boat started unless i turn idle nobe to all the way out to low. I can remove it and it picks up idle but then dies. Please help. Dont know what the settings are on the idle nobe or high speed rich or lean nobe.

Re: Trouble with carb

Static settings
Low speed = needle valve lightly seated and turn out 1 1/2 turn.
High speed = needle valve lightly seated and turn out 3/4 turn.
Final adjustment has to be made with the boat in the water.

Re: Trouble with carb

It sounds like you still have a carb problem. When you overhauled the carb did you remove the core plug on top of the carb and clean the passages underneith? Did you flush all the passages with carb cleaner and blow all the passages with compressed air? Did you replace the packing washers behind the fricton nut for the low speed jet, is the fricton nut tight?
