Johnson 88:

Trim motor works fine and running, just can't get the boat motor to come up.
As I think back about a week ago, My trim lifted the motor, but when it was time to leave the spot, my motor was partialy in the water. The two pins that come out of the resivors would go all the way in when trimming down, but would push back out after a minute or two.
A local mechanic told me that there was probably air in the system, and that I had a leak somewhere, if that was the case. Now I'm wondering how to get the air out, and where should I start looking for a leak? Doesn't make sense to drop the boat off if I can do it!

Re: trim problem...Air???

Chase, try this,

Try to get the trim unit as straight up and down as you can. Lower the front end of the boat and stuff like that.

Tilt engine all the way up. Remove the large fill screw in the TNT reservoir. The correct level is when the fluid is even with the screw hole. Add fluid as needed. Replace the screw a little lose. (have a rag handy). Cycle the engine up and down four times and leave all the way up. Recheck the level and add fluid as needed. Cycle the engine up and down again and recheck reservoir level and again add as needed. Put the screw back in tight and see if the problem re-occurs. Keep us posted...Thanks.

tried that Jim....
I did everything you told me, about 30 times. It will lower it's self, but it will not raise the motor. Wondering if I had to back out the other screw on the other side just to get the oil to come all the way through the system. I'm going to try again today, hopefull I'll be out tomorrow???
