transon help

i installed treated wood on my 16ft aluminum boat about two years ago. Heard afterwards that it will destroy aluminum. The boat is trailerd and garaged. I have taken it out about 15 times since. No visible signs of any kind yet. Do you think i can get away it till end of the season then replace it?

welcome to iboats.....

Where the treated wood is in contact is going to the area most at risk.

There have been pictures here in the restoration section where PT wood has eaten into transoms and created thinning of the transom..... there have been holes eaten into the bottoms of hulls from PT bunk boards.

It's your choice on the "when" to replace it.......... with the comment that it is garaged ...... I think you might be okay.

thanks for the info. I will go and pick up outdoor grade (not treated!) material. i still have the transon for a template. going to try to get about 7 fishing trips in this year. then i will replace the wood. i will have cut, glue and coat it so all have to do is put it in.

Prepping the wood....... gluing and coating it about half the battle and since you have a template..... you can pre-build the new transom at your own pace....... I rebuilt one last year for my smaller starcraft that way and used epoxy and coated it with varnish.

Then when ready pop the old one out and install the new one.
