Hello! New to the forum. Looks like a great place to be!

I just pulled the drive on my SX-M in order to replace the bellows and gimbal bearing. Boy, does it need it.

So I need to remove the transom housing. What size 12 point bit is this? (See picture). I don't have one in my toolbox.

Another question: I am in need of the Penta Workshop Manual for my SX-M (#7743008). Does anyone know where one can be found either on pdf or hard copy? There's nothing on Ebay right now. I found a web site that has it but requires you sign up for a monthly membership and doesn't allow downloads.

I have heard that you can buy sealed gimbal bearings. Which one do you recommend?
Thank you!

You don't need a 12 point. Just use a regular hex six point. I forget the size.

Be careful with those, make sure whatever tool you use really fits properly, because you don't want to strip them. Might want to put the tool in place, give it a few taps with a hammer, maybe carefully use heat on the piece it screws into (pivot housing), because it looks like it's been in there a long time. IIRC there are fiber washers between the pivot housing and the swivel housing that you have to get lined up. I used grease to hold em in place and used OMC gasket sealer on the threads of the pin, that way they don't seize in place. When I did my Cobra (very similar to the Volvo) the last time it was about 11 years from when it was done last, they came right out but I know the mechanics who did the job used the gasket sealer on the threads. My bellows seem to give me about 10 years before small cracks form, then it's time to replace it.

I find the bigger risk of corrosion are the screws that hold on the trim sender on the starboard side that covers the said pivot housing bolt. Do the same thread treatment described above on the threads if you get them out without breaking them...
