I've got 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 and it sits on a trailer with rollers, the boats o\been on this trailer for close to 30 years, but I was wondering if a rivited aluminum boat migtht be better to sit on a trailer with bunks instead of rollers, or does it make any difference? it seems to me that the rollers put pressure on the rivits in the boat, where a trailer with bunks wouldn't

Re: trailer question

I don't have any technical information on the matter, but I share your opinion. IMO, all boats will benefit from riding on a bunk trailer. However, I do understand the ease of loading onto a roller trailer.

Re: trailer question

When in doubt, get the manual out. I looked in my Starcraftowner's manual on pages 8 & 9. Their answer is "adjust trailer rollers carefully as a roller's entire support is resticted to a very small area at the top. A maladjusted roller can damage the hull at point of contact."
Their stated a "long straght longitudinal bunkers extending past the transom of the boat provide most uniform support"
I scanned the pictures and pages, but don't no how to add them to the posting

that's what I thought, so my next question would be, what does it take to convert my roller trailer to a bunk?

ok, I think I'm going to have the boat out this weekend, so I'll get pictures of the trailer once the boats off it.

Re: trailer question

When you get to the boat launch trailer parking area, get out you camera. If your area is like here, you can get as many pictures of bunk trailers and roller trailers you need to convert your trailer over. Most any marine supply store or catalog house can supply you with the hardware you need. It's not that hard, once you have a clear picture of what the finish product should look like. You may get lucky and find a bunk boat trailer just like the one you need.

Re: trailer question

I'm going to have the boat out on the river again in the next few days, I'll get some good pictures of the trailer to post when I get the boat off it, I figured it would be pretty easy to convert, just not sure yet how I'm going to go about doing it, but getting pictures of other trailers is a good idea, so I'll make sure I do that, thanks for the tips.
