Towing question

Hi folks,

I am considering purchasing a V-20 and was wondering if my 1995 Dodge Dakota will be able to tow it without any problems. The Dakota has the V-8 Magnum engine (318 CI) so I would think thats sufficient enough for power. My main concern would be, is the truck big enough to be able to tow the V-20 safely. Seems like the Dakota is dwarfed by the V-20, but then again I have only seen photos of the V-20 and it does look huge from the pictures! Wife agreed to a new(used) boat but under strict orders that I cannot even think of buying a new truck! Sheeeesh, women...... hahaha

Shawsee, welcome to iboats.
What is the weight of the V-20?
Towing capacity of the Dakota?
I bought a new '92 when they first came out with the new body style, but don't remember the tow capacity of it.
That will play a big factor in the equation.

Thanks for the welcome here. The V-20 is rated at 1920 lbs. dry weight and the trailer is an Easy Loader. So I would imagine the whole set-up for the boat and trailer would be less then 3000 lbs. I do plan on installing a class 3 hitch also which has a rating of 3000/6000 lbs and a GTW/TW of 300/600 lbs.

I still cannot find the towing capacity rating of my Dakota, my owners manual doesn't have any info on towing capacities. Maybe I am being too overly cautious but I just want to make sure my Dakota can handle towing the V-20. I also did go check out the V-20 up close, it truly is a GEM, and it was very well taken care of by it's owner. The boat is a 1976 V-20 Step Lift and it looks like it's only a few years old! I was and still am in shock over seeing this beauty.

Thanks so much for your help. This site is awesome and everyone does seem to help out if they can from what I have been reading. I have to wait till Tuesday evening to hear from the man who is selling the V-20. I am the second buyer in line, and I only hope and pray that the first buyer cannot get the financing. I on the other hand have the cash and if the seller tells me it's mine, I will drive out there (two states away) and buy this Gem. What a boat and I would be so very proud to own this beauty.
