I am going to buy a 15 or 18 4 stroke for my new boat.The dealer is giving me a real good deal on a 18' 4 stroke Tohatsu (maybe too good). Any thoughts as to Honda,Merc,Johnson or others ? Thanks

Re: Tohatsu 18' 4 Stroke vs.Other 4 Strokes

They are the oldest Japanees motor maker.
They don't cost as much as the major brands to start with, so at a discount they are a good price. They also are a good motor for what I know about them. I am a Merc guy myself.

------------------
...have fun...corm

cubic inches = power
power = speed
speed = FUN

Email me if you need to.

Re: Tohatsu 18' 4 Stroke vs.Other 4 Strokes

I just purchased a new 2006 4 stroke Tohatsu 25 hp 20" long shaft, electric start . Got her going great for about a 1/2 hour. Then out of the blue the power head locked up.Battery is fine but starter will not turn flywheel when ignition is on. Going over the manual I gulp noticed I had put one gallon of 4 stroke oil in vs the (small print 1.6 quarts recommended) I drained out excess oil. pulled out oily plugs and reset. But still no go. Have I fried the rings. Engine seems to be locked up.Any advise would be welcome.
