Is it customary to tip the gas station attendant when getting gas on the water? How much?

I do. Usually a buck or two, depending on how much they do and how they act....

Then again, I know a couple kids that work the gas docks as a summer job on the Erie Islands. They make pretty good $$$, get to meet a lot of people, are in a cool enviroment, and generally have a good time. They also work the finger docks as dock hands. I ALWAYS tip them well. Oddly enough they always have a nice dock for me.

Raised the deposit for my first house with a job pumping gas. I was 14 when I started, bought the house 7 years later.

A job is a job.

$2. $5 if they help you launch or retrieve the boat.

Re: Tip for a gas station attendant

spent my times on the pump islands myself, stated working at a shell station in vallejo CA in high scool then at griffin shell in mobile AL for a bit. by the time I worked at an Exxon station in cleburne TX for a few years it downed on me as a station attendant I would never make enough to support a family.
its not a bad gig, just never paid enough.

Yes, a couple of bucks for the guys at the gas docks if they help me tie off and bring me the hose etc. Recently I flipped a guy a fiver as he helped with the hose, the lines and he brought me a spray bottle to wash down any spillage . . .

My uncle had a small marina on the Lake of the Ozarks years ago and I'd spend a couple weeks there each summer helpin my cousin on the docks. I remember the scenery as being excellent...and the lake wasn't bad either. I assume we got paid....

I firmly believe that any attendant lucky enough to be able to assist in fueling my boat should feel truly blessed. 8)
