Can someone provide me with the Mercruiser procedure for this setting/adjustment? I have a techmate. It's just that my seloc book only goes back to 2001 and I just bought a 1999.

The Mercruiser owners manual that came with the boat says 8deg but does not say how to check it???

Thanks,

It's an MPI. No adjust to be made (it's all done by the ECU)... So no point in checking it..

Two way ways you can look at it. 1-Put a timing light on and see where it's firing, or 2-hook up the diagnostic software on a computer and see what the ECU says the timing is...

Chris.....
P.S. Throw away the seloc, they are the second biggest load of crap in the manual market!!!

Download this -> Engine Manual

Don't bother with the MPI manual, that is for a 555 ECM, and you don't have one on your 99 model. Just use the engine manual, it has the proper info for your engine.

Oops hold up there for a minute Chris, i believe his serial number is within the mefi 3 range and not the 555 PCM. The mefi 3 is still adjustable and the 555 is not adjustable timing wise.

0L302200 THRU 0M299999 = mefi 3
0M310000 THRU 0M316999 = 555

ok... That works for me... Not had much to do with the old MEFI system...

If it is a MEFI, then the timing procedure is in the manual I linked to, on page 4B-6... and you are going to need your scan tool.
