I have a new to me pontoon with a 1998 model 50hp Evinrude, model is E50TSLECC.

I want to verify timing is set correctly as previous owner adjusted it. Runs good overall, just want to make sure it's set correctly.

I'm looking for the correct procedure along with idle and max timing numbers.

Not sure if this is right for this engine but I have read to set throttle to WOT and pull both sparks plugs, crank engine over and set max timing to 3 degrees under what it suppose to be while cranking.

Any help is appreciated.

The timing doesn't change on its own, so it's most likely correct unless someone messed with it.

The correct max timing should be printed on a sticker on the motor, idle timing is what it is when the RPMs are correct.

That method of timing will get it close, I use that method, then run it on the water with a timing light to confirm it.

The previous owner messed with it for some reason, it maybe correct but I want to verify.
