Last year my girlfriend, myself, and my dog (1st time out on the boat) went to our favorite spot on the chesapeak bay to launch our boat. Dog was tied to the pole in the parking lot, girlfriend was holding the lines as I backed up to the ramp. Since the ramp is so steep as soon as I got to the end the boat went a flying. The bad thing here is that went the boat went the trailer came back down off the tilt in full force only to find my pinky finger in between the trailer frame and tilt portion of the trailer.

Needless to say my finger was just a hanging, so I held my composure, wound the boat back up on the trailer with the other hand, got the dog and rushed down the street to med-first. Only about 1-mile down the highway.

As I had my finger sewn back on, luckily no nerve damage or anything, about 20 stitches and 2 hours later was heading back to the boat ramp to give it another try.

Watch out for the steep ramp and tilt trailers...

Re: Tilt Trailers and Steep Ramps

I had almost the same thing happen to me this past summer; I went to my favorite ramp on the Potomac River, had my dog with me on the boat, and had my girlfriend tied to a post in the parking lot. My dog and I left the boat ramp and had a great day fishing when about 4 hours I remembered that I had left my girlfriend tied to a pole in the parking lot. Me and my dog still do a lot of fishing now but I am currently looking for a new girlfriend.

Keep the Bait in the Slick.....

Re: Tilt Trailers and Steep Ramps

Steep ramps arte a bummer! several years ago i was waiting in line at Wellfleet harbor for a guy with a brand new 25' mako and ford bronco. I knew he was introuble when he took 15 minutes trying to back the boat down the ramp when he finally got it all lined up he quickly hopped out and strted leeting the winch out. He was not in far enough and the boat would not come free. He ran back to the truck backed up quickly and slammed on the brakes. The winch was still running free from before the boat started to fly off the trailer. He jumped out ran to get the bowline line and watched his ford back right into the water! His truck was still under water when I came back 4 hours later with a bunch of mechanics and tow trucks figuring out how to get it off the rocks it was hung up on!
