Tilt and Trim quit while skiing...

We have a 1991 Johnson 70 VRO. It is mint condition, cleaner on the inside than the outside. Low hours. Yesterday while we were skiing I pulled a hard left over choppy water, and attempted to adjust the trim while doing so. I noticed then that the UP buttons on both the control box and motor no longer worked when they worked about 2 minutes ago. The DOWN buttons simply makes the hydraulic pump run, but otherwise does nothing; the motor is all the way down. The trim gauge reflects this.

Is this an electric or hydraulic problem? Fuse, short, rotten wires?

The battery has a good charge, although shorty before attempting to trim the boat again we used the cigarette lighter about 10 times to stop the waterskiing rope from fraying. In the 2 minute time frame that it stopped working in, we also switched gas tanks.

Any ideas?

Best regards,

Dylan

Does it make any noise when you hit the up switch. If no noise it is electrical. probably a relay.
