Temp guage reading zero,

My temp sending unit took a dump I think, the thermostat still works cuz the engine does not overheat but the guage does not go up like it should, just stays at zero. do I just need to replace sending unit?

It would be somewhat helpful if we knew what we were working on? Year, Engine and drive would be a good help.

I too have this same problem. I have an '89 Merc 4.3L Alpha One. Hope that helps. Thanks;-)
