tell tale water spraying not streaming

I have a 1995 40hp Tohatsu model#M40C ser#361A88284 I was running out on lake yesterday when motor bogged(sounded like I ran thru weeds)just for a second but i was in 20' of water with no weeds in site.Motor now sprays like a finger on the end of water hose instead of good strong stream.Is there an easy fix, can motor be back flushed,what do I do.I immediately shut motor down and trolled back to ramp.Any Help would be appreciated.<br /> Thanks!<br /> Mike E

Sounds like something got stuck in the water channel just behind the pee hole. Try to clean it out with some small item. If you get something rubber-ish out, it may be fragments of your impeller.

Yup sure sounds like you got either something stuck in water tube (dirt or impeller parts) or just lost impeller. I just changed mine out myself on 40 hp Merc, fairly easy and cheap job. $25 for impeller(didnt replace impeller plates - looked good),Boy do I **** out a stream of water out tube now! I used some unwrapped solder line to clean out tube also. Good Luck, Heinz
