Restore 1990dt 140. Started great. Had to pull plugs to kill it. Where does it ground? Key or safety kill switch doesn't affect it. Wiring seems intact except for sensor at top of head. 2 wires , one black with red hooked to ground. One purple with white factory male with nothing open around it to plug into.
Killing motor is my first objective. Sensor second

Hope another comes in to help, but all wiring I've seen has the grounding happen at the key and kill switch is also there

Seems to pass through ignition module. Green ignition wire changes to blue w/red stripe at harness connector and runs to ign. Module. Module is grounded. Bad module? Expensive part swap.

Switch black wire was slightly melted from harness connector to engine block ground but still had continuity. Replaced with new wire.

UPDATE - Green from remote to engine connection had no conductivity but tone tracer signals full length. 🤔 Found Nick in rubber casing, wire was intact but felt thin. Pulled apart to easily and was rusty. Will be pulling a separate remote green wire tomorrow. It's a 1990 model so going cheapest. Still need lower unit. 20" if anyone knows of one.
