Suzuki 140 2 stroke

For those of you who have been following my post I will let you know that I am almost done with all the repairs on my engine. It all seems to be a buch of little problems. I never did rebuild the carbs but I did take the top one off and check the bowls. They looked brand new and I really don't think that they need a rebuild. I did spray some carb cleaner in them and ran the engine. right now it isn't sneezing but it does sneeze a little every now and then but I think that it is just because the 4 carbs need to be adjusted. Now the problem I am having is that I don't think that I am going as fast as I am supposed too. I am topping out at 5500 rpms which I think should be good but I am only going about 28 mph. This is really confusing me. How can I be going 5500 rpms and only go 28 mph when I used to go 5500 and go 45 mph. Nothing has changed with the prop so I am lost now. Other than that it is running fine. Thanks.

Main point for those who don't want to read everything. At full throttle I am going 5500 rpms at 28 mph. I used to go around 45mph at 5500rpms. There have been no changes with the prop since I used to run it faster.

Carb bowls may look clean but it is the jets, especially the high speed jets you need to take off and give a good clean ..... I would have a look at the reed valves also .......

5500 is 5500. If the tach, prop and boat haven't changed, then your source of speed reading has, and pickup tubes are always inaccurate. Just use a proportionate amount of fuel injector cleaner in your fuel to keep things smooth. My guess is that you failed to balance the carb linkage, and that'll cause the sneeze for sure. Remember the fuel mix at idle is air mix on the Suzuki, so opening the air screw leans the mixture.

Well, I think that I just found a major fuel problem. Today I went to fill the tank up when I noticed that it was taking way to much fuel. I pulled the plug and out poored pure gasoline out of the hull. I drained 17 + gallons out of the hull. I could have been killed it the battery spark would have ignited the fumes. This has seriously scared me away from boats. I would think that the manufactuers would have made anything that contains fuel extremely durable because of how dangerous it could be. HOw could this happen and does anyone know what I could do to fix this problem. I think that I am just going to drain the hull and the tank and use an external tank from now on. Or maybe just give up on boating until I am rich.
