Sunk borrowed boat!

Rounding the bend on the Mississippi River at Hastings, Mn,I noticed a boat (an I/O) apparently in distress. Upon acceleration the bow would rise high, then drop down. As we approached, the screaming occupants bailed out and the boat sunk. It turns out the operators were middle easterners who took the boat for a test run prior to purchase. They apparently hit something at speed, tore the transom loose and down she went. A nearby cruiser managed to tie off the bow line and slowly drag the vessel to shore where a pickup dragged it onto the beach. No word as to how the transaction turned out.

Re: Sunk borrowed boat!

I think I posted this somewhere here before, but once at the boat ramp I saw a guy pull his boat up the ramp without tying it down. The boat came flying off the trailer about half way up the ramp - really f'ing up the fiberglass and outdrive. As I helped him push it back onto the trailer he told me he had just barrowed it for the weekend...

I hate when that happens. You start out in a nice dry boat, and then before you know it, you need to swim ashore and hop into your car and drive home in wet clothes! All this to test drive a defective boat! It's not fair!

If they tore the transom loose, then probably it was rotten.

don't know about those fellas but I don't think I'd purchase a boat that takes on water like that. it probably has water damage within the structure. LOL
