Stripped Gear?

I have a 1983 15 HP Gamefisher that recently starting having a serios problem. I can go forward at idle speed, but when trying to throttle up, the engine revs and the prop does not spin. It works fine in reverse, so I'm guessing that it might be the forward gear in the lower unit. Anyone have any other theories? The upper linkage seems to be working fine.

I assume you've tried your spare prop to rule out a spun hub?

I was told by someone else today that it might be a spun hub. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare prop, but will probably order one now. Assuming that it is a spun hub, can I put a new hub cushion in my old prop, or do I have to buy a new prop also? Not very outboard savvy, thanks for the repsonse.
