Hello Kindbud, Where you hail from in Pa. sounds like you are real close to me. I am about half hour from the river and about 15 minutes from nockamixon. Small town of Lansdale. Every year I promise myself I'll go for shad but never get there. Maybe this year I will do it.

----------------
Flathead

Kindbud and Flathead,
I've spent most of my life pulling stripers out of the ole Delaware. I live about 2 miles south of the DE Memorial Bridge. I fish south a lot, down by Salem Nuke, but I sometimes venture north up by Marcus Hook. Lot of hogs out there. If you're ever out, give me a shout on the VHF radio. Hail "The Head-Liner" or "The Head" on CH. 16. If I'm out, I'll be glad to swap some info with ya. Maybe even run up your way some day. If your Fishing from land or don't have a VHF, just keep me posted Via this site, or E-mail me. Best of luck to you both.

Ted Christopher
A.K.A. Seahawk, I only go as far south as Trenton. I mostly fish up around Reiglesville for bass. I would like to get into some striper action this summer on the river. Only thing is I use a 14 foot aluminum Sylvan with a 28 HP motor. How do you think I would fare with this boat in the big water down near the D.M. bridge. The shad should running soon I just hope you guys down river leave a few for us guys up north.

Flahthead,
I understand your concerns. The lower river can get a bit nasty. Although, if you pick your day right, she gets flat as a pond in the early evening till dark. You can fish on the inside of the jetti and not have to worry about tanker wakes. The fishing is still very good there. Also, you're never more than about a hundred yards off shore. I,ve seen a lot of tin buckets bring in 40+ inch fish. If you ever decide to try it, get in touch with me. I'll turn you on to some great spots, as well as directions and tips for the best ramp sites. I've grown up on this river and can save you a lot ot time and aggrivation.
P.S. I'll send a few little ones up your way to hold you over till you can come down here and get on the heavy meat.

Re: stripers stripers stripers

Skinny,

Round here I generally use bloodworms in the early spring, then once the water temp. warms up a bit I move to bunker. Big hunks of bunker. I have friends who net for a living so I always have very fresh bunker. It is only good frozen for about a week. Whatever I don't use in a week, I put in my chum pot. It's has been a good system for me. As far as equiptment goes, I use only St. Croix Med.-Heavy or Heavy rods. All between 6 and 7 feet. I don't really know why, I just bought one about ten years ago and really liked it and have just kept buying them since. Reels: I use several different types of reel depending on what I'm fishing for. But for rockfish, I always use my Shimano bait runners. 3500 and 4500 models. I have 2 of each and never had a single problem with any of them. I tend to stick with what works. Line: about 20 lbs. berkley trilene XL has worked well for me over the years. I get the green color. Whether that matters or not, I haven't a clue. Just habbit I guess. Farther south rattle traps work well, but that's a whole different lesson for another day. Took up too much space as it is. If you're interested, E- mail me and I'll fill you in on all kinds of helpfull tips to get you started.
Ted Christopher
A.K.A. Re: stripers stripers stripers

Hey guys,
Sorry for not getting back to this post earlier. We have spent the past month buying a 14" Lowe and rebuilding a '95 15hp Evenrude. Between working, rebuilding, and riveting LOL, we haven't even got out to do any fishing... Last weekend we had reports from friends of ours that the stripers are in the river heavy (from Trenton all the way down to the Commadore Barry Bridge). A few buckshad were caught in the Trenton area also. They post a weekly fishing report on www.members.aol.com\wormpeople (and they have a pretty kick @ss little bait shop right up the street from a free boat ramp). As soon as we get up and running, we'd love to get together and do some fishing with you guys. We live in Eddystone (south of the Philly airport). We fish for everything from salmon to sea bass LOL.

Flathead and Seahawk, we'll drop you an e-mail when we get out. Not this coming weekend, but the weekend after we're heading down to the Jersey shore to do some flattie fishing--Mother Nature permitting...

(by the way guys, Mr. Kindbud can't type this well LOL)

Good hooks and smooth drags,
Mrs. Kindbud
aka chelle and Paul

Hi guys I'm new to this forum but not new to Delaware river or bay. If your looking for good advice , the bay and river is doing good for stripers now. You could check in at the bassbarn .com for lastest report from local anglers and charter boat captains .Its a great site and everyone shares alot of info there.
I normaly fish from the c&d canal down to the mouth of the bay, I'm out every weekend.
Good luck and tight lines
Bounty Hunter
