So the state record here is 58 pounds. Caught in sommerset kentucky. I would like to know how you guys fish for these and where on the ohio river you can find them. I caught them on the coast but never in fresh waters.. Is anyone catching them here on the river? I know about lake cumberland, next year will be heading down there, but I would like to try on the ohio river. I'm in louisville and am out almost every week. I have a ton of tackle ready to go. On the coast it was one of the fish we could find year round. I'm hoping its the same here. I can't find anyone around here that is fishing for them in the ohio. I know that indiana and parts of kentucky have stocked the ohio. But some of them were stocked years ago. I think there has to be some monsters in there. There are lots of shad in the river. So plenty to eat.

The best way to locate them is to start trolling and watch your sonar. I like to troll Rattlin' Raps in different colors and sizes 'til I find what they like.

Also watch for diving birds and for fish schooling near the surface in the "jumps" in the mornings and late afternoons.

can get it to the face of the dam and bounce it along the bottom. Guys down here catch anywhere between 14 and 28 pounders. half my post somehow got cut off. WE catch them below Uniontown dam a hundred miles or so downstream from you. Get some large swimbaits in white and chartruese at least 8" long. you will need heavy line and anywhere from 6 to 10oz of weight. Throw them as close as you can to the dam face in an open gate and bounce them off the bottom. Guys down here catch anywhere between 14 and 28 pounders.

I catch them at McAlpine dam area and the hydros. Nothing even close to 58lb but lots of 10lb fish.
