Anybody know what the main jet size should be used for a two barrel mercarb on a 350 vortec engine? The manual states a .072 for a 5.0 but no spec for a 5.7. The cheap made in china carb i just installed came with a #70.9. Started right up and sounded good in the driveway but not sure what to expect out on the water tomorrow.

For reference, what Merc manual number gave you the 072 number?

What year is the engine or more importantly, engine serial number?

If the engine is original/Merc factory, etc.', The serial number ought to be located just above the engine starter.

The following info should also help start heading you in the right direction of info.

Without knowing your engine details a bit more it looks like according to parts diagrams in 1996 Merc switched to a 1.65 used to current engines of the 5.0, 5.7's and 1995 - 1987 came with a 1.85 for the 5.0 - 350's.

It's the carb numbers and Venturi Cluster Identification numbers you got to watch out for to all match up too.

Item number 18,
