Steering linkage question

Not sure how to describe this so bear with me please. Sorry I can't upload any pics.

On our 90 hp Evinrude outboard, the engine cowling hits the motor mount when it's turned all the way to the right (as viewed from behind). There are raised letters, OMC, on the mount, that are getting imprinted into the cowling from it, soon to pound a hole through it.

I'm sure this can be adjusted somehow to stop it from hitting, but not sure what to adjust. There is a linkage rod that attaches to the steering tube with a bolt on the left side. The other end of that rod (right side), has a bolt that goes thru a hole in the mount. There are 3 holes in the mount that it can go through, and it is in the first hole (closest to the motor). I'm thinking it needs to be moved to the second or third hole over, or would that bring it even closer to the the mount?

Other thought is that something is worn, bushings or something that need to be replaced. Any suggestions?

Re: Steering linkage question

I don't quite know what you mean by "motor mount" but if you move the steering rod bolt furthur away from the center of the mtr, you will lose turning radius.
