Re: staying aboard

My wife and I Sleep on board all the time. We started with our first boat a 30'Chris Craft. Our boat is our summer cottage. There is nothing in the world quite like it. I'm sure you both will love it. Best tip I have is for the first few nights try to remember where the head is. I got up one night having a real need for it and forgot I was on the boat and couldn't find it. Almost had an accident. May all your sunsets be red. SJ

Re: staying aboard

It's a unique experience that everyone should try.

- It says the boat "sleeps 6", but it only sleeps 2 or 3 with any comfort, and even then you better be good friends.
-If you're a light sleeper like me, you won't sleep well unless it is dead calm. I would always wake up at the slightest ripple. That's one of the reasons I got a bigger boat. I sleep fine now.
-Only take what you need. 26' gets cluttered in a hurry.
-Keep the keys in the ignition! You never know when the anchor will drag (trust me it's not fun scrambling to find the keys at 2AM in a thunderstorm).
-Plan to have provisions for breakfast onboard. There's nothing better than waking up before dawn and hangin' out with nature.
-Have Fun!

Are you planning on staying the night on the hook or at a marina? As mentioned above you want to be really good friends if having 6 aboard (unless they are small children). Everything will become an art from what you take on board to how you pack it, you can draw off the experience from others but a certain amount will be trial and error on your part too. I see your from Ontario too, where will you be boating?

I,m assuming you will have some females aboard ...word of caution, they like to bring stuff, and lots of it. This is a pet peve of mine some guys are bad also... but I have no problem berating them for bringing too much stuff, just in case... Its anoying spending 40 min. moving stuff so everone can bunk down. I always tell people that half the fun of overnighting on the boat is improvising. Aside from that it can be a serious tripping hazard having all that stuff laying around. Good luck!!!!

Jim

Imp...good for you, mine won't be going for another 2 weeks. I'm just around the corner from Rama on Couchiching, you'll have to make it up there some weekend and spend the day at Big Chief island, on a nice hot day there is usually 200-300 boats there!

No kidding ! Just to go up and eat supper on the boat and spend an evening and then come home to sleep requires a big tote bag. Overnight requires 2 or 3 big tote bags. This is in addition to food, cooler, dogs [ pita ], etc. My greatest joy is spending days and nights alone on the boat. A few pair of underwear, socks and maybe an extra pair of pants and shirt.

OOOOHHHHHH don't let the wife see this :)

Re: staying aboard

I love my Commodore to death, but why is it that a man can spend three night on a boat and not even need ANY of the lockers or hanging closets. Yet as soon as a woman spends ONE night on a boat, all of the storage cabinets are too small ?
