Starter Not Getting fire on 80 hp Merc

I have a 1988 80hp Merc. When I turn the key all I get is the dreaded sound of a click. Battery is fine. So I moved to the starter and had it rebuilt, still just a click on key turn. Unhooked starter hot wire and hit key again and get the same click. Where do I look now, and what do I look for when I look.<br /> Thank you

Jump a wire from the positive on the battery to the starter. If it cranks, starter and battery are fine. Your problem lies in the solenoid, the hot wire from the battery to the solenoid, or the wire from the solenoid to the starter.
