Has anyone converted a super sport 16 into a center console? I am about to give it a try and would love to hear any suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
Tres

Have not but was going to on one but decided to sell. I now have an 18' Mariner and I love the cc as it is usually just me. I'm hopefully about to replace my floor and will be making a few small changes.

I have completely gutted it and am planning to do all the decking in 1/8” aluminum as I think it will save about a pound per square foot. Going to add a deck in the rear to replace the transom well and hopefully make it a little more fishable.

If your walking surface is 1/8" aluminum, you will have to go from 2# foam to 6# foam

1/8" aluminum seems way overkill for the floor. After watching tiny boat nation on the youtubes, you could add structure underneath the floor with angled aluminum as a frame, and use thinner aluminum for the floor I think. Save a lot of weight. Nothing on a 160ss is 1/8" from the factory. Its what I will do if my floors ever go out, and what I wish I had done originally.

1/8 5052 will stretch and divot if walked on without support. Not until you get up to 3/16 / 5mm can you span 24" of foot traffic, gear, etc

Scott, thank you for the reply, can you please give me an example of 6# foam? I was thinking about the big sheets of that pink foam board insulation from Home Depot.

2-part flotation foam. its available as 2#/cubic foot for pure flotation, up to 16# per cubic foot (used to add anti-crush and buoyancy to submarines)

the 2# foam is usually fine under typical 5/8" or heavier floors, however you can crush it with your two fingers

for a 1/2" wood floor, the 4# foam is what is recommended. you can still deform it with two fingers, and crush it with your thumb

however with only 1/8" of 5052 aluminum, I recommend minimum of 6# foam.

Scott, thanks again for, I had also thought about adding some more aluminum stringers to cut the span to around 10”. I will look into the 2 part foam.
