hello,
quick question about the chieftain 25. How does it compare to the islander 22 and the chieftain 22?

Specifically:

1) When a chieftain goes from a 22 to a 25, what is actually expanded? Like do they make the cabin bigger (so they both have the same fishing space) or do they keep the cabin the same size (so there's 3 feet more fishing space) or do they increase both (so there's maybe 1.5 extra feet in the cabin and 1.5 extra feet of fishing space)

2) how does the fishing space in the islander 22 compare to the chieftain 25? Like does the extra 3 feet of the chieftain 25 give them similar space, or is the fishing space on the chieftain 25 still significantly smaller than the islander 22? Has anyone measured the fishing space of the islander 22 vs the chieftain 25?

Thanks so much :)

Hey you know what, that's a really great question and I am interested to know too! I have a Chief 25 that I am rebuilding so I can take any measurements needed for this comparison. I'll go out in a bit and take a measurement of the cockpit length and width as well as cabin. I bet even the smaller 22 Islander has a longer cockpit area than my Chieftain 25 as most of the space in the Chieftain is dedicated to cabin space. So I'm guessing the Islander 22 has a longer cockpit area than both the Chief 22 and 25 although the 25 should definitely be taller and wider. The Islanders look like they were optimized as a fishing machine as priority #1 with a cabin just big enough to sit, sleep and have dry storage. Like a Starchief with way longer cockpit area. I'll post the Chieftain dims and an old catalogue photo that compares the layouts if I can find it.

So here's what I've got from measuring the 25:
--Cabin--
Width
-to windows 75.5" (6' 3.5")
-to hull sides 90" (7' 6")
Length
-cabin wall to windshield 111" (9' 3")
-cabin wall to front of v-berth 159" (13 '3")
Height
factory setup 67" (5' 7")
*Height from floor to between ceiling beams 70" (5' 10")
*Height from hull bottom to between beams 74.5" (6' 2.5")
--Cockpit--
Width
-to perimeter wall 76" (6' 4")
-to hull 90" (7' 6")
Length
-cabin to perimeter wall 102" (8' 6")
-cabin to transom 111" (9' 3")

Here are a few snips from old Starcraft catalogs that show deck layout and some size comparisons. You can really see the difference in cockpit to cabin proportions in the one where it compares the Islander and Chieftain of same length.Screenshot_20230710-153810.jpgScreenshot_20230710-153653.jpgScreenshot_20230710-153504.jpg

One of the factors in the Islander 220 is that they're in an OB config too where I've not seen a Chief over 20' having an OB at least around here of for sale anywhere. I have a V5 220 Islander OB but the measurements wouldn't do you any good if your looking to be in an IO config and not sure that the V5 would even be the same as the standard 220V.
