Hello folks. I have an opportunity to purchase a 14 ft., 1969 Starcraft, aluminum fishing boat. The boat is 200 miles away, and I'm researching it before I make the trip. It has a 1973 50 hp Evinrude on it, and they say it has a single side console. Obviously, I'll have to check out the boat integrity and engine integrity on this rig. However, my questions are these:

Does this seem to be overpowered with a 50hp engine?
This is a side console, v-hull. Would the coast guard weighting be for 3 or 4 people? Any ideas?
They are only asking $700 for it, and it has the boat, motor, electric trolling motor, and depth gauge they say all is working. I don't see how I can mess us real bad here. Does anyone have any other thoughts of things I might be looking for?

Thanks for you time!!

that 'rude 50 w/ controls is probably worth 700 by itself if it runs....if that setup includes a trailer i'd say its a great deal (depending on boat condition) make an offer, maybe you could get it for less....can't hurt to try anyway

Well, I did go ahead and buy the boat. I now have the deck out of it, and will replace the deck and fix some "seeping" leaks. I think I can do most of the work myself. The motor does turn over, and I will have to go through the process of "awakening a sleeping outboard". Process is kinda slow, but also kinda fun! I"ll post pictures when I get into the project and done.
