Re: speedometer stuck

You have garbage in your pitot or your pitot is defective.....could also be a break in the plastic tubing.

Inspect the pitot and see if there is anything seaweed, lakeweed, dirt lodged in the pick up hole.

Pitot is the proper name for the plastic "whatcamacallit" that controls the speedometer. NOTE: Some outdrives have a water pick up hole built in but basically same principal.

Bob

Re: speedometer stuck

thank you bob. there is no way to just reset the needle on the speedometer itself?

Re: speedometer stuck

I don't know. Try removing the speedo from the pick up tube at the dash and maybe try to remove the speedo (usually only held in with 2 nuts from the back) itself.

Bob :)

Never blow air to the speedo, always away. You have a static port as well as a pitot port. The speedo measures the difference in air pressure. Both must be unobstructed. The static could be in the unit itself but the pitot goes to the transom.

On second thought there isn't a static port. But there is pressure in the pitot tube being held there by an obstruction. Most likely its in the last foot of plastic tubing by the transom. Blow out the 6" pitot tube then the line from the speedo. Removing the pickup tube behind the speedo the needle should fall to 0. If not the unit has a fault. Write back!

Re: speedometer stuck

If all speedos work like mine, take a "speedo-rooter" and try to dislodge whatever is clogging the speedo pickup... no speedo-rooter? try a small nail...

Hi Rick - Try Boats US, or Overtons.com - they should be able to help you. If not, try the tiny nail - same thing basically...

I see you are in fort worth - do you ski?
