I want to hook up a speedometer on my boat. The question is does it matter if I drill the pitot tube hose hole above or below the water line. Does it matter?

Above! No use drilling below the water line unless you really have to.Use the 3M 4200 on the mounting screws.

Re: speedo question

I don't even bother drilling a hole. I run the tube up the transom and into the rubber boot or access hole in the splashwell for the steering and control cables.

Of course, if you just can not live without drilling another hole in the transom, above the waterline is always preferable to below the waterline.

Re: speedo question

What I ended up doing because of the set up I have, I drilled thru the transom. It came out right on the water line. Will that effect the performance. Thanks

Re: speedo question

It won't affect the speedo or boat performance. Just don't understand why you needed to put another hole in the boat. You could have run the tube over the transom and down the back.

Re: speedo question

I have a 1969 14' galstron with a 25hp evinrude. The way I routed it was the best way with no kinks in the hose. If I routed it over the transom I possibly would have a kink in the hose. This way its out of the way and no one could accidentally lien on it.
