SP-C Exhaust Bellows Saga

Hello Everyone

I'm having a problem I can't believe I'm having.
It's tough to explain and I hope you can follow
it.

Here's the summary first: The problem is I need
exhaust bellows that have the same size ends, but when
I order the correct part number for the drive, I receive
bellows that have different size ends.

Here's the details:

I have a 430B with an SP-C drive.

I am replacing both bellows, but having trouble
getting the correct exhaust bellows.

According to the parts diagram I need part number 876631
Exhaust Pipe And Cooling Water Pipe Drive Sp-C, Dp-C 430A, 430B, 431A, 431B, 432A, 434A - 7736260 - Volvo Penta

I ordered and received 876631. When I went to
install it, the engine side fits correctly, but the
drive side is too big. The bellows have a different
diameter on each end and I need the same
diameter. I know this because I tried the engine side of
the bellows on both the engine side and drive side
and it fits properly on both.

I read this thread and Mike ordered two of the same
part number as I did, yet received two different
bellows. One with each end the same size and one
with different sizes. Also, same part numbers that
I mention below.
http://forums.iboats.com/volvo-pent...drives/volvo-penta-exhaust-bellow-301787.html

The bellows I removed have a Volvo part number
897631 molded on it. The new one has 872974
molded on it.

I contacted the distributor thinking that maybe
the wrong bellows were in the right box and he
checked every box of 876631 he had and they
all had bellows with 872974 molded on them.
He said he contacted Volvo and they said 872974
is the correct bellows for part number 876631.

I know it's tough to follow these numbers. I'm
familiar with it now and I have trouble.

The distributor says they can't supply me with
the bellows I removed that have number 897631
on it and (supposedly) Volvo doesn't even know
what that number is. The number is molded on
the bellows and says "Volvo 897631", so someone
should know what these bellows are.

The distributor now wants to know what diameter
I need so he can fix me up with something. I don't
even want to get into this. I want the correct Volvo
part.

Any ideas what I should do?

Am I looking at the correct parts diagram?

Thanks . . . . Brian

Re: SP-C Exhaust Bellows Saga

Hi

I guess there is no answer to this?

Anyone with a SP-C drive can no longer
buy exhaust bellows?

I have no idea what to do . . . . . .

Re: SP-C Exhaust Bellows Saga

Hi

Yes, #7 should be the correct part, but it isn't.

The engine side of those bellow fits perfectly,
but the drive side (being a bigger diameter) is loose.

I now have a boat, with an SP-C drive, that I
can no longer use because bellows are not
available.

I just don't understand this ?

What does everyone else do who needs to
replace their bellows with an SP-C drive?

I appreciate your response though - thanks.

Whoops....had posted wrong link.

Did you google search the parts?
Some show to be in stock; some says they were superseded, as you mentioned...

897631 is/was the entire "kit" with clamps, not just the single bellows assembly.

What's the condition of your old exhaust bellows? I've read that unless they're falling apart or ripped, that they are inconsequential for operation? For the SX drives the OEM's have 'weep' holes and the Sierra aftermarket ones have 'sliced' ribs for draining?! Just a thought? Not sure if the same?

Have you looked into aftermarket? Not ideal, but better than nothing?
