Sometimes Forward Sometimes Reverse

Was having some situations with shifting. Took the lower cable off of the interrupter to try to shift. At idle on the muffs i was able to get forward but not revers then reverse but not forward. Time for the outdrive to come off?

With the drive off there is a good chance that you will find some marine growth deep in the upper housing where the slider travels and also forward in the bell housing. You should be able to pull and push the with just 2 fingers. Any more then the cable needs replacing.

Sounds like the cable may be worn but shifting without the interrupt switch is tough.
