i'm working on a sea-doo...it's leaking oil into the hull (can't tell from where) and also burning lots of oil...lots of smoke. whats the problem. can you buy block off kits for these even though the rotax gear needs the oil bath? any thoughts would be great. thanks

Re: smoking seadoo

lots of smoke? is the oil pump calibrated to the throttle? if the cable snaps, the pump defaults to 'feed full' position.

a blocked oil tank vent can generate positive pressure, forcing oil through the pump into the intake. in certain circumstances i suppose it would be possible for the oil pump to fail in such a manner it was allowed to gravity feed into the engine for an oil-rich super smoky scenario, though this is much more common on kawasaki craft ( they use checkballs that crack open with 2-3psi of oil press... there wasa recall on that some years ago...

see your parts unlimited catalog or sbt for an oil block off plate. you can loop the RV lines together ( full of oil) and tie them up, and pull the oil tank for some extra room in the hull.

Yes you can get a kit to convert to premix however it probably wont help you.My guess is that your crank seals are bad and losing oil into crankcase. It smokes worse if you let it sit for a few days?? Could possibly be the rv shaft seal but doubtful. BTW until you determine the cause of the xtra oil,I wouldnt suggest looping the rv lines like dude says cuz when that small amount of oil in the lines leaks outta your crankseals, your rv is toast.......strictly IMHO...

it is quite common on those engines to have a leak in the rotary valve compartment through the crank seals like was mentoined by the previous poster,, not a lot you can do accept replace the crank shaft as the seals are not accessable without disassembling the crank,, and it isn't something you can do yourself..

Re: smoking seadoo

leaky RV's will show as bubbles in the RV lines when unit is running, or a case leak test... block off intake, exhaust, pressurise case to ~10psi...

greg

PS your leak into the hull is likely the worm clam that has cut one of the RV lines at the nipples, under the exhaust or the intake...
