Anyone have an opinion on a small 4 stroke outboard? I have been looking at 5-6hp 4 strokes, Honda, Yamaha, Merc - Tohatsu - Nissan (all 3 the same)? These are all sgl cylinder, do any run better than the other?

Scott
Pretty much any of those that you listed are going to do well for most any user. Let the quality of the dealer( - service, integrity, price-) dictate the direction that you go. I say this alot.

When the going gets tough, there is nothing better than a good dealer to help you out.
4 strokes suck
did i mention they suck
and by the way they suck
p.s. they suck
but make good lawn mowers so if cutting sea grass i guess they r ok but 4 outboards they suck
just my opinion
and by the way they suck
marinemech
I think you are being too vague. Could you comment on my favorite 6 and 25 hp 4 strokes. They are sooooo sweeeeet. Please, oh please clarify what you mean. And they drink so little, and dont smoke. Batavier
away for a few days
power to weight ratio
biggest reason for me is crankcase oil
portabilty
emission levels especially carbon monoxide
yes 2 strokes emit carbon monoxide, but at at a very low rate when compared to 4 strokes
in fact e-tec motors produce less then lethal amounts the small e-tecs are still in r&d stage
but hopefully will be avaiable soon
2 stroke motors (carb) produce high amounts of hydrocarbons (unburnt fuel) and oxides of nitorgen (smog) but very low amounts of carbon monoxide (ordorless colorless deadly gas)
i like odorless and colorless gas.

can i convert any of my nine 2 strokes to 4 strokes, then , maybe on a day with a slight breeze, at idle, all that gas can come into my boat and kill me and my family. sounds fun
