Hooking a tack to a 1999 johnson. I understand the black wire is ground, the purple wire is hooked to switched 12 volt, blue is for back light and grey is for signal. The question I have is were is this hooked to on motor and would it be correct to set the dial on the back on tack on 3 pulse for a three cylinder motor. First time for this hook up for me so any help would be great. Thanks

I had no idea what this thread was until I opened it up... But I guess I could have guessed... It's 'Tach' which is short for tachometer.

I beleave with Johnson motors the tach is set at 5P. Just hooked one up for my Johnson.

When you bought the tach it should have came with some directions which will tell you the settings. If it didn't and you wanna be 100% sure look it up on google you will find it. But I'm 99% sure it's 5P for Johnson motors.

Hope this helps.

Piggy, The Tach counts the number of pulses from the stator. The grey wire is therefore hooked up to one of the stator wires (Usually yellow)
