I just greased the nipple on the outdrive and I spotted grease lying on the inside of the gimble out in the open. I assume what I just put in didn't really go in like it should. I can see a small, maybe 4" long tube coming from the backside of the zirc going to another unit and the fresh grease coming from the far end of it where it feeds into.
Am I open to water????

Yes, with that tube out water will get into your gimbal bearing and into the bellows.
Since it is loose, I would get a new one and install it. Be sure to clean the hole it goes into of all grease and use locktite to keep the tube in place.
You should also pull the drive and check for water, replace the gimbal bearing and ujoints if water has got in already.
