Good day folks,
I have a problem with my throttle / shifter.
It is I/O 140HP Mercruiser.
It’s the type of shifter that you could pull out a little bit and then either move forward or reverse to accelerate while in neutral.
While shifter is “pushed in” and you move it to either forward or reverse, both shift cable and throttle cable move fine.
When the shifter is “pulled out” only the throttle cable should be engaging at this point.
In my case it doesn’t and the shifter just drops down freely.
Any idea what I should check for?

Thank you,
Lenny

Re: Shift lever problem

Does your shifter have a botton at your finger tips that you push in to engage the outdrive? To "trottle only" pull the shifter out and then foward WITHOUT pushing the bottn in with your finger tips. Does this make sense? When you push the button in at your finger tips, it engages the outdrive. If you pull the shifter out and forward (without depressing the button) and the outdrive still engages, sounds like somethings sticking- had that happen when my boat hadn't been touched in 2 years. WD-40 sprayed at the shifter base fixed the throttle only problem.
