I am slowly getting the boat put back together between waiting for partsand the weather. I have the leg and new belows and shift cable installed. I have the manual as well as another set of instructions for adjusting the shift cable. I am a little unsure as to the meaning when it says to put the shifter in full forward or full reverse. Do they mean full forward as in move the shifter all the way to the front including full throttle, and the same in reverse or just till you feel the detent for forward and revese gear?

1972 Mercruiser 120 hp ser #'s beginning with 32
Thanks in advance Glen

ya can mash the throttle all the way fwd. or backward if ya want. but the shift occurs prior to adding throttle. adding throttle won't do anything extra for it going into gear. imho. if ya wanna know if it's in fwd. ya can go look under the ft. of the drive at the shift shaft coupler.

this is my drive. it's in neutral. if it were in fwd. the shift shaft coupler would be facing straight fore and aft. this lets you know your in fwd. if drive in the pic were in reverse, the shift shaft coupler would be facing further than it is to port. neutral is half way in between fwd and rev. when looking at the coupler.

ya could also tell if it's in fwd by spinning the prop ccw. it should lock and not turn ccw. when looking at it from aft facing fwd. in rev. the prop will lock cw. when in fwd. and the prop is turned cw it will ratchet. when in rev. and the prop is turn ccw it will ratchet. when in neu. it will free wheel and just spin freely either direction.

Thanks for the info Ziggy, I just found the instructions in the manual a little confusing.
